How to cut a script down
- Start with the payoff. Cut the warm-up line before the hook.
- One idea per sentence; drop the second example if the first lands.
- Swap phrases for words: "in order to" becomes "to".

Frequently asked questions
How many words is a 60-second video?
About 150 words at a normal speaking pace, 130 if you speak slowly and 175 if you talk fast like most creators. A 30-second video is roughly half that: 65 to 90 words.
How accurate is the time?
It's an estimate from your word count and pace. Pauses, music and cuts change the real length. Read a paragraph aloud against a timer and set your own pace on the slider for the closest result.
What do the brackets do?
Notes such as [cut to B-roll] or (point at the screen) aren't spoken, so they aren't counted. Turn that off if you use brackets in the spoken text.
How long can TikToks, Reels and Shorts be?
TikTok allows up to 10 minutes recorded in the app and longer uploads. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, and Reels over 3 minutes aren't shown to new viewers. Most well-performing short-form videos are under two minutes.
