To add captions to a LinkedIn video, turn on Add auto captions when you upload it, or on desktop click Edit on the video preview and attach an SRT file with Select Caption. LinkedIn's auto captions support English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic and Dutch; for a styled look that shows the same everywhere, burn the captions in before uploading.

Option 1: LinkedIn's auto captions

  1. Start a post and add your video.
  2. In the editor, switch on Add auto captions.
  3. Optionally switch on Review captions before viewers can see them.
  4. Click Done and post.

Captions can take a while to appear. LinkedIn shows a banner under the post when they're ready, where you can Edit them, or Review and Approve them if you chose to review first.

Option 2: Upload an SRT file (desktop)

  1. From the share box, click the video icon and select your video.
  2. Click Edit in the top right of the preview.
  3. Click Select Caption and attach your .srt file.
  4. Post. Captions appear once the video finishes processing.

Use this if you already have an accurate transcript or need exact wording for a company announcement.

Option 3: Burn captions in

LinkedIn's feed autoplays videos muted, like TikTok and Instagram. Captions burned into the video show immediately, with your own font and branding, and look the same if you also post the clip elsewhere. With Capsubs, upload the video, choose a style (Classic is a good fit for professional content), and download the captioned MP4.

If you burn captions in, leave LinkedIn's auto captions off for that post so text doesn't overlap.

LinkedIn video limits

Spec LinkedIn (organic posts)
Length 3 seconds to 15 minutes
File size 75 KB to 5 GB
Aspect ratio 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 (vertical, square and horizontal all work)
Frame rate 10–60 fps

LinkedIn's help pages advise keeping the edges of the video free of text and logos so the interface doesn't cover them. Center captions vertically or keep them above the bottom 15–20% of the frame.

Which to use

  • Quick and free: auto captions with review switched on.
  • Exact wording or legal review needed: upload an SRT.
  • A clip you'll post to LinkedIn, Reels and Shorts: burn in captions once.
